All of us here at Boats Inc. are thrilled to acknowledge the widespread positive response to the entire “Larry the Lucky Lobster” episode. It is very apparent by the overwhelming response; everyone was ready for some good news to be shared by the media. It’s been heartwarming to find that many of you who heard or read about “Lucky Larry” were moved to send kind messages and call, asking us what you can do to continue the momentum!
What can we do together? Boats Incorporated is located in Niantic, CT. As you know, conservatively 99% of the fans in the state are avid UCONN Huskie supporters. In turn, there is an incredible collegiate sports rivalry between UCONN and the Lady Volunteers of Tennessee.
Regardless of the rivalry, it is very clear that UT women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt is a very special lady. Last month, Peyton Manning presented Pat with the prestigious “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” at the 2012 ESPY’s. As you may know, 60-year-old Pat Summitt revealed a year ago that she is battling early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. She subsequently stepped aside from her final season actively coaching the Lady Vols just a few months ago.
I found the video preceding Pat’s “Arthur Ashe” award incredibly moving. This iconic women’s basketball coach is a true champion, and the guidance and direction she has provided to so many individuals on and off the court can never be forgotten. I’m sure many of you can identify with the suffering that Alzheimer’s creates for a family. We know about it personally, as members in my own family have had to deal and cope with Alzheimer’s.
We have decided that – coupled with seeing Pat’s story – we will take the generous spirit of support we felt with “Lucky Larry” and rally around the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history and her Pat Summitt Foundation Fund.
You called or wrote, “Thank you for releasing Larry, how can I help?” Well, here you go! Click on “Larry” below and make your donation to the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund. In the comment section, simply put, “On Behalf of Lucky Larry.” Please join me and the team at Boats Inc. by helping Pat’s Foundation Fund with a donation for research in the areas of early-onset dementia and Alzheimer’s.
“Lucky Larry” gave us all a shared reason to feel better this summer season. Let’s continue that good feeling and help by making a donation to a very worthy cause.
Finally, thank you all for the incredible cards, letters, e-mails and calls. Thank you, Steve and Kristen (The Dock Restaurant in Waterford, Ct.), for allowing me to jump in line and take Larry and thank you to the New London Day for saying, “Yeah, Let’s go cover this guy releasing a lobster.” This has been a summer none of us will ever forget!
